The Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office is pleased to present the 2023 Annual Report, providing a comprehensive look at the agency’s operations, crime trends, and community engagement efforts. Sheriff C.O. Balderson, in his sixteenth year leading the department, commended the dedication of deputies and staff in maintaining public safety and strengthening relationships with the community.
Key Highlights from the Report:
- Crime & Enforcement: The office handled 96 narcotics offenses and conducted 61 drug-related arrests. DUI enforcement remained a priority, with 41 arrests made throughout the year.
- Community Engagement: Deputies conducted 45 crime prevention presentations, reaching over 1,600 residents, and launched the Junior Deputy Academy at Montross Middle School.
- Programs & Initiatives: The Project Lifesaver program continued assisting families with at-risk loved ones, while the Safe Exchange Zone provided a secure location for online transactions and custody exchanges.
- Court & Civil Services: The department provided security for 203 court days and processed over 4,300 civil papers in 2023.
- Community Events: Programs such as Shop with the Sheriff, National Night Out, and TRIAD fostered positive interactions with residents and businesses.
- Recognition & Awards: Deputies were honored at the MADD Awards Ceremony for their outstanding DUI enforcement efforts.
