Scammers are contacting potential victims utilizing a spoofed phone number pretending to be a deputy with the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office. The scammers use the name of an actual deputy, but are not associated with the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office. Victims are told that they either have a warrant for their arrest, or they have failed to appear for court and are subject to arrest. The scammer then solicits money from the victim, telling them they can take care of the matter by payment. Scammers will then tell the victims to go to their bank and withdraw money for gift card payment, and other forms of cash fraud, check fraud, and identity theft. Please do not fall for this scam. Law Enforcement will never ask for any payment for outstanding warrants.
