ACCREDITATION

At the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, we are committed to the highest standards of professionalism and service. Our accreditation by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) since May 2006 is a testament to our dedication to excellence.

Accreditation is a rigorous and intensive process that enhances our ability to prevent and control crime by ensuring the more effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services to our community. It serves to increase community understanding of our agency's role, goals, and objectives, fostering citizen confidence in our policies and practices.

Governed by an executive board composed of six Sheriffs selected by the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association and six Chiefs selected by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, the VLEPSC program promulgates a comprehensive set of standards comprising over 700 points of professional practice. These standards are recognized as "best practices" for law enforcement agencies and are continuously reviewed to ensure compliance. Reaccreditation is scheduled every four years to retain this highly coveted status.

Our accreditation underscores our unwavering commitment to professionalism and accountability, serving as the ultimate measure of our dedication to serving and protecting the residents of Westmoreland County.

TRAINING

The Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office prioritizes ongoing professional development and training for all personnel. The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services sets and ensures compliance with minimum training standards for all Virginia law enforcement personnel.

Under the oversight of our Support Services Division, our personnel undergo comprehensive training that meets or exceeds state requirements. This includes entry-level training, initial field training, ongoing professional development (in-service training), and specialty training.

Our commitment to training ensures that our deputies are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and expertise necessary to effectively serve our community and uphold the highest standards of law enforcement professionalism.

At the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, we believe that continuous training and professional development are essential to maintaining the trust and confidence of the communities we serve.
