If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the power company, use caution. Callers are advising citizens that they have 30 minutes to pay an amount they provide through services provided at Food Lion and other businesses that provide money transfer services. They provide a call back number and request you contact them from the business for further information on where to wire the funds. Callers are threatening to cut off the customers power if the payment is not made within the time frame. The current scammers are advising that they are with Northern Neck Electric, which they were not in this case.
With any such calls, always call the business through which you have loans, credit or services and confirm the call is legitimate before paying based on a phone call. Never give out personal information to unknown persons and/or businesses.
