The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Patrol Deputy for our Lateral Entry Program.
The Lateral Entry Program affords Virginia DCJS Certified Officers a chance to join one of the area’s finest Law Enforcement Agencies. Officers who have excelled in their law enforcement careers and are up to the task of meeting the high standards of the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office are encouraged to apply into our true lateral entry program. For lateral employment, consideration applicants must be currently employed with an agency whose primary function is community based policing. Applications will be accepted on a continual basis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be certified as a law enforcement officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, currently employed by a Law Enforcement Agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, 21 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen. Applicants must also possess a high school diploma or equivalent, possess a valid driver’s license, and successfully pass all phases of a highly competitive selection process. The selection process includes:
- Oral review board
- Comprehensive background investigation
- Interview with the Sheriff
- Medical exam
BENEFITS
While the starting base salary for a patrol deputy sheriff is $38,000.00. A deputy’s salary who joins the agency through the Lateral Entry Program may be greater based on his/her individual qualifications. The Sheriff’s Office offers a complete county benefits package in addition to a take home vehicle, college tuition reimbursement and deferred compensation.
