General Requirements for Employment at the Sheriffs Office are listed below. Special Requirements may be made for particular positions and will be outlined in a job advertisement. EOE

  • Minimum age of 21
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Possess a Virginia Drivers License
  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Complete an application for employment and present it to Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office. (Application must be complete with all requested Paperwork attached)
  • Pass a written examination
  • Pass a Physical Agility (abilities) test
  • Oral review (point value assigned)
  • Must pass a background investigation which includes a check of school records, driving record, credit history, inquiry as to character and reputation, health history, and a fingerprint-based criminal records check.
  • If all other required elements of the process have been passed or met, the candidate will receive a conditional offer of employment. The applicant must then take a physical examination administered by a medical doctor. The examination will also include drug screening.
  • Applicant may also be subject to polygraph examination.
