Westmoreland County claims the distinction of being the birthplace of Presidents George Washington and James Monroe. Further, Stratford Hall which is located within the county was the home of two signers of the Declaration of Independence and the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. Westmoreland County is located in the Northern Neck of Virginia between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers. The area is primarily agricultural with water resort facilities and covers approximately 252 square miles, to include the incorporated towns of Montross and Colonial Beach.The Sheriff's Office serves as the primary law enforcement agency for the county and the town of Montross. It has concurrent jurisdiction with the police department in the town of Colonial Beach.
